Oban Top 10
If you are spending a couple of days in Oban here’s our Top 10 list of things you must see and do:
Take a Joy of Scotland day tour and discover Argyll's hidden gems. Pose with shaggy Highland cows, get up close and personal with mysterious standing stones, jump for joy at the whacky Bridge over the Atlantic. More info>
An energetic climb up the hill behind the hostel takes you to MacCaigs imposing granite folly. You'll be rewarded with fantastic panoramic views over Oban bay and beyond.
The fresh seafood shack near the Ferry Terminal is FABULOUS. Or go to Norie’s fish & chip shop and share your chips with the eager seagulls on the Esplanade. (you've been warned!). If you’re feeling rich, try out one of the delicious seafood or Scottish restaurants in Oban – there’s plenty of choice.
Take the wee ferry over to Kerrera – the island opposite Oban. Walk around the island, look out to sea from the ruined Gylen castle and munch homemade cakes at the island’s Tea Garden. Oban’s Dunollie castle stands guard over the entrance to Oban bay and nearby Dunstaffnage Castle is where Flora MacDonald was held captive in 1746. Soak up the history, breath in the sea air. Oh and take a few photos.

Visit Oban’s own whisky distillery by day and tour Oban’s pubs by night. There’s Markie Dans – a lively bar with frequent live music gigs. Then there’s Aulay's Bar, The Lorne, Coasters, O’Donnell’s Irish pub – the list goes on. Each has it’s own mix of pub food, live music and good craic.
Clear the head with a blast across the water on a sea boat trip. Seafari from Easdale take you to the awesome Corryvrechan – the world’s third largest whirlpool. More info>
